Typical of most of Colorado, the mountain lifestyle cost of living is higher than you may expect. Salida home prices range from the low $100,000s to well into the million dollar range. Many of the older developments offer reasonable prices on maturely landscaped with well situated homes. Most of the newer developments are higher priced, in premium locations, with great views and easy access to town. Salida is the Chaffee County seat, and the cultural and recreation center of the valley. The city of Salida has about 7,000 people living within the city limits, and another 10,000 people living the surrounding hills and valleys. Most people in Salida work in the recreation or service industries. Good Internet connections also allow many people to telecommute to jobs around the US. This combined with good airport access in Colorado Springs and Denver, make Salida a very good location for telecommuting or Internet entrepreneurs. See the complete Salida Community Profile.
